Bulletin Board

Are you missing an orange and white cat?  One has been living on and around our back yard deck since last August.  He's an affectionate kitty and we've been keeping him fed, watered, and sheltered.  (We took him to the Humane Society recently where a vet determined that he's a neutered male.)  Our previous efforts to find his owner via newspaper ad, Craig's List, and calls to the Humane Society and Friends of Ferals didn't pan out so we're trying again.  Please call Ginny and Larry White at 231-1562 if he sounds like your cat.

Lost a Pewter Platter? Someone left a pewter platter at the 12th Night Cocktail party at the home of Sally Gleason. Please call Sally at 238-6876 if the platter belongs to you.

Neighborhood Bridge Club Wants You!

Nakoma Neighborhood  Bridge Group, active for more than 35 years, is seeking new players.  We are a social group of varying bridge experiences and abilities, but mostly we just have fun playing 4 times a year between October and April.  After finding a mutually convenient date, each pair serves as host for two tables of bridge once during the season.

The group includes amateurs and very experienced players---everyone will fit in and is welcome.  Lacking a partner?  We’ll find one for you.

Make a New International Friend Our niece, Krissa Hinzman, teaches English in Spain and brings her best students to Madison every summer. We’re helping her find a host family for a 14-year-old Spanish girl for the period July 2-29. “Irene” was impressed with the Nakoma neighborhood during an earlier visit. She gets along well with young children, kids her own age, and adults. She is easy-going and happy and very pleasant to be around. Please call us, Ginny and Larry White at 231-1562, if you’d like more information or contact Krissa at anamericanexperience@yahoo.com.

Math Tutors Needed Our neighborhood middle school, Cherokee, is on a constant lookout for math tutors. Tutoring is an opportunity to make a significant and direct impact on a student’s academic achievement and readiness for high school. Our tutors work through the Schools of Hope initiative and are coordinated by Emily Lewis-Martin. If you have good math skills and feel you can effectively work one-on-one with middle schoolers, we’ll put you to work. We need tutors at all levels from Math 6 to Algebra. Most tutors work once or twice a week after school. Please call Ms. Lewis-Martin to discuss a math tutor placement. She can be reached at 204-1268 or elewismartin@madison.k12.wi.us.
