Picture small-town America. This event begins with kids dressed in red, white and blue parading through Nakoma. At the conclusion of the parade, neighbors gather at Thoreau Elementary school for a lively picnic, complete with food, games, prizes and our own neighborhood band.

Fourth of July Fun

Our Nakoma Fourth of July Celebration was a fun time for all!  Hundreds of Nakomans gathered at Thoreau Elementary School to participate in the event activities. The annual bike parade kicked off the day with a sea of Red White and Blue bikes, trikes, wagons and scooters on Cherokee Drive. What fun to see the patriotic creativity the kids put into decorating their bikes!

Once back at the school, neighbors were met with a multitude of games and crafts, a bouncy castle, a splash tank, a sno-cone machine and good ol’ grilled brats to eat.

The chairs of the event this year were Beth Rogers, Sara Braun, Megan Senatori and Jill McNaughton, but it was the army of volunteers who delivered a grand time for all. A HUGE thank you to each and every one of you! Your time and efforts create fun lasting memories for the children of Nakoma. This event would not happen without the support of so many neighbors pitching in with a smile!  Thank you!!

The committee would have struggled without the direction and help of Melissa & Steve Deller. From start to finish they were there working to make the day a success. Thank you to the whole Deller Family for their continued dedication to this wonderful event.

No picnic would be complete without good food! The brats and hotdogs were prepared by Steve Deller, Tom Willis, Ed and John Gleason, and Chad. They also had the support of numerous fantastic front end prep cooks. Anita Consigny, Mary Timme and Scott Timme graciously served the crowd of hungry neighbors. The delicious desserts that make the Cake Walk game one of the most popular games year after year were made by: Julie Hostettler, Leah Sandholm, Kate Huntington, Kristin Churchill, Angela James, Diane Puccetti, Annemarie Banas, Heather Buettner, Nancy Zellmer, Audra McGuire, Sharon Nelson, Liz King, Kathy Andes, Carla Phillips, Mary Lou Garnett, Robin Gray, Amy Hotter. A very special thanks to Gina Hodgson, Sarah Pfau and Mary Kay Roseneck for running the Cake Walk!

We also had Ticket Sellers, Bouncy Castle Monitors, Dunk Tank Operators, Prize Distributors, Parade Monitors and Cleaners! Some neighbors pulled double duty…Whew! Thanks to everyone who made the trains run on time: Leah Sandholm, Maggie Drane, Beth Kugler, Tasha Bremel, Heather Buettner, Edward Lightbourn, Matthew Everts, Nancy Wettersten, Audra McGuire, Shannon Dean, Matthew Drane, Camille Deller, Jack Buettner, Kate Huntington, Michael Finnegan, Alex Leeds, Angela James, Melissa Deller, Mark Consigny, Scott Timme, Mary Timme, Brad Nelson, Julie Bauhs, Rick Roseneck, Kim Walters, Carla McDonald and Greg Everts.

Lastly, a very special thanks to the Kids and Families of Nakoma who offered to run a game or host a craft table! So many smiles and laughs are thanks to your efforts and creativity. Cole Consigny, Quentin & Bryan Johnson, Clare Everts, Annemarie & Paul Banas, Ellie & Adrienne Hodgson, Meghan Pfau, Julia Roseneck, Rachel Roseneck, Kathy Andes, Patrick McKenna, Tasha & Michael Bremel, Carrie & Kate Zellmer, Karen & Rachel Leyer, Ethan & Julia White and Hannah Chandler.  What an impressive list of volunteers!  Hats off to you all!
